Campus Life Tales

THE SHOWER WATER: SCALDING OR GLACIER.

Follow us for more tales from the trenches of campus life.

Before the all-nighters, the intense debates that stretched into dawn, or even the occasional nocturnal rodent adventures, there was the daily ritual. The dorm shower. It was never just a shower, was it? It was a gamble. A high-stakes encounter with an unpredictable system. You’d brace yourself, turn the knob, and hold your breath. Would it be a blast of water so searing it felt like a geyser from the earth’s core, threatening to strip your skin clean off? Or would it be a glacial assault, shocking your system awake faster than any triple espresso, making you wonder if the pipes were somehow connected to an arctic current? There was no in-between, no gentle lukewarm embrace. Just extremes.

This wasn't merely a personal ordeal; it was a shared, unspoken pact among us. A collective memory forged in the steam (or ice mist) of communal bathrooms. We learned to adapt, to execute lightning-fast adjustments, to perfect the art of the tactical shower. These seemingly minor battles against the elements, these quirky challenges, became part of the unique fabric of our residential experience. They were the everyday tests that, alongside our rigorous academics, subtly built our resilience and adaptability. They were our extreme dorm conditions, a testament to the fact that greatness sometimes begins in the most uncomfortably hot or refreshingly cold places.
