We all have them, don’t we? Those dining hall memories that stand out, not always for the right reasons. Perhaps it was the "gourmet" night that promised much but delivered... well, less. But let’s be honest, nothing quite compares to the collective gasp of confusion, then the universal nod of regret, when the chefs decided to venture into Japanese cuisine.
Remember that day? The buzz of something new, a break from the usual pasta rotation. There it sat, meticulously arranged (or so it seemed from afar), a colorful array of rolls. Sushi! In our dining hall! A moment of genuine hope, maybe even excitement. We grabbed a plate, perhaps even a few too many pieces, eager for a taste of sophistication amidst the study grind.
And then... the bite. That moment of truth where expectation met reality, and reality tasted suspiciously like a combination of lukewarm rice, questionable fish, and a whisper of regret that instantly spread through the room. Eyebrows raised. Polite coughs. Shared glances across tables that screamed, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Yes, we were. We all silently agreed: this was a culinary experiment best left untried.
Yet, even that memorable mishap became a story, a shared laugh, a bonding moment that transcended the questionable quality of the maki. These weren't just meals; they were the backdrop to late-night discussions, impromptu study sessions, and the unique, sometimes bizarre, culinary adventures that define our time in these hallowed halls. The dining hall, with all its quirks, remains a cornerstone of our Ivy experience.
