Post-Grad Reflections

SEEING PHOTOS OF YOUR OLD DORM AND MISSING IT.

Follow for more raw takes on the post-grad journey.

It hits differently, doesn't it? Scrolling through old photos, and there it is: your tiny dorm room, the communal bathroom, the slightly-too-loud common room. A sudden, unexpected ache for a life that felt both demanding and comforting.

We were all so focused on the future, on securing that dream job, on translating our elite education into an impactful career. The campus was a pressure cooker, yes, but it was our pressure cooker. We navigated challenging coursework, vibrant student groups, and a hum of intellectual curiosity. We were part of something specific, a shared journey with brilliant minds.

Then, you graduate. The transition from campus to career is... weird. Nobody truly warns you about the sudden shift from a structured, intellectually stimulating bubble to the sprawling, often ambiguous "real world." Suddenly, the certainty of a syllabus is replaced by the open-endedness of a career path. Late-night study sessions feel like a distant memory, replaced by late-night emails.

That wave of nostalgia for your old dorm, for the quad, for even the cafeteria food – it’s not just about a place. It's about a chapter, an identity, a unique shared experience. It’s okay to miss it. It means it mattered. You're not alone in feeling that subtle, yet powerful, Ivy nostalgia. It's proof of the profound impact those years had on us. Keep building, keep striving, but also, let yourself feel that quiet longing for where it all truly began.
