…pretend to be passionate about fintech for a coffee chat.
PRETEND TO BE PASSIONATE ABOUT FINTECH FOR A COFFEE CHAT. Follow for more relatable tales from our shared journey.
Admit it. We've all been there. That feeling that if you didn’t hit the right notes, join the "right" clubs, or secure that "perfect" summer internship, you hadn’t truly experienced university. It’s a silent curriculum, isn’t it? Beyond lectures, there was unspoken pressure to perform, especially when career fairs loomed.
Remember those endless coffee chats? Researching companies, memorizing missions, then… pivoting. Suddenly, you were a blockchain enthusiast, a deep-tech devotee, or utterly captivated by fintech. All for a 30-minute chat, a chance to network, impress, or secure that referral.
It wasn’t always about genuine fascination; it was strategy. Playing the game, ensuring your resume spoke "prestige" and ambition. You articulated a manufactured passion with conviction, almost believing it. Joined clubs not just for camaraderie, but for the "pipeline" or "alumni network."
Now, navigating campus or years into your career, you look back and wonder. Was it an elaborate performance? Did that forced fintech enthusiasm lead somewhere fulfilling? Or just part of the shared, slightly absurd, Ivy experience – a rite of passage we tacitly agreed to? It's okay to admit it. We've been there.
