HOSTING AN ANNUAL PUN BATTLE JUDGED BY PROFESSORS.

Follow for more dives into the traditions that shaped our Ivy experience.

Remember those uniquely quirky departmental, club, or dorm rituals? Amidst the relentless pursuit of academic excellence and the late-night library marathons, some of our most cherished memories were forged in the crucible of these oddly specific traditions. Take the annual pun battle, for instance. It wasn't merely a contest; it was an intellectual release, a joyful testament to the quirky brilliance that always bubbled just beneath the surface of our serious studies.

The air would crackle with anticipation, soon punctuated by a symphony of groans and genuine guffaws as students unleashed their cleverest, most groan-worthy wordplay. And the professors, usually paragons of academic rigor, transforming into amused, sometimes bewildered, judges, added an unforgettable layer of hilarity. These weren't just events; they were shared moments that solidified bonds, offered a much-needed mental reprieve, and reminded us that even the most demanding environments foster genuine human connection and playful creativity.

From pre-exam primal screams (loved or endured?) to elaborate secret society initiations, our campuses were rich tapestries woven with traditions both celebrated and occasionally, let’s be honest, tolerated. But it’s these intimate, often eccentric, departmental or dorm rituals – perhaps a yearly quirky award ceremony, a midnight poetry slam, or indeed, a professor-judged pun battle – that truly defined the unique flavor of our Ivy journey.
